Matrox Supersight overview

The Matrox Supersight family consists of the Matrox Supersight e2 unit and Matrox Supersight Solo unit.

The Matrox Supersight family is a series of MIL-supported, self-contained high-performance computing (HPC) platforms which have a PCIe switched fabric backplane that supports Matrox Supersight system Host boards (SHBs) and multiple auxiliary PCIe boards (such as GPU boards (display boards), boards with Processing FPGAs, and frame grabbers) in one chassis.

The two types of Matrox Supersight units differ as follows:

Name of unit

Matrox Supersight SHB preinstalled

Maximum number of possible SHBs

Switched fabric backplane

Matrox Supersight e2

SHB-5520 or SHB-Q170

4

PCIe

Matrox Supersight Solo

SHB-5520 SHB-Q170

1

PCIe

Each SHB in the unit acts as a separate computer with its own BIOS, operating system, memory, hard disks, USB, network ports, and dedicated display controller. The display controller allows you to send analog video data to one high-resolution analog display device, such as an analog monitor or analog flat panel. An SHB's access to an auxiliary board (such as a frame grabber) depends on the number of SHBs connected to the backplane and on the slot in which the SHB board and the auxiliary board connect. Each SHB can either be connected to one or more of its own hard drives, as well as access the hard drives of other SHBs via a network connection.

One Matrox Supersight SHB, along with any additional boards that are connected to the SHB through the backplane is considered a node on your network. One Matrox Supersight e2 unit can have up to 4 SHBs, and therefore there could be up to 4 nodes on your network.

Matrox Supersight e2 unit integrates one RS-232 serial port. The driver and the receiver of these ports are always enabled. Each interface is controlled by a Universal Asynchronous Receiver-Transmitter (UART) device.
