Upgrading a MIL runtime license

If you already have a MIL 9 runtime license, you can upgrade this license to run MIL 10 applications. To upgrade your runtime license, perform the following:

  1. Install MIL 10 on your computer as described in the Installation section of Chapter 1: Introduction. You must uninstall MIL 9 from your computer to install MIL 10. Since the MIL 9 license is stored on a hardware component, uninstalling MIL 9 will not affect the upgrade process.

  2. Open the MILConfig utility from the MIL Control Center. Expand the Licensing item in the tree structure of the presented interface and then click on the Upgrades sub-item. In the pane to the right of the tree structure, there is a drop-down list of hardware components with upgradable licenses. Choose the license that you want to upgrade from the drop-down list.

  3. Click on the Upgrade button to generate a lock code.

  4. After generating a lock code, obtain a software license-key by contacting your local representative or using the Matrox licensing portal website.

  5. Activate the license by entering the software license-key in the Activate pane of the MILConfig utility, accessible from the Licensing item.

If your MIL 9 runtime license was activated using a dongle, it is possible to upgrade the runtime license, but additional steps are involved for the dongle to appear with an upgradeable license in the MILConfig utility. First, you must ensure that one MIL 9 runtime license dongle (a SuperPro dongle) and one MIL 10 ID dongle (a CmStick dongle) are connected to the USB ports of your computer; remove any additional MIL dongles that might be connected to your computer. Drivers for both dongles must be installed on the computer. You can install the MIL 9 runtime dongle drivers from the \Install\superpro directory of the MIL DVD. The MIL 10 ID dongle drivers are installed automatically when MIL 10 is installed, and you can find the installation program in the \Install\CmStick directory of the MIL DVD if the drivers were somehow uninstalled. With both dongles connected to your computer, you can select the MIL 10 runtime dongle from the drop-down list (from step 2 above) and click on the Upgrade button. Subsequently, a lock code will be generated and the two dongles will be associated together. Once associated, you cannot associate the MIL 9 runtime dongle with any other MIL 10 ID dongle. The lock code can be used to obtain a software license-key and activate the MIL 10 runtime license; the license will be stored on the MIL 10 ID dongle and you can disconnect the MIL 9 runtime license dongle. If you have a computer with Update 49 for MIL 9 installed, you can continue to use the MIL 9 runtime dongle to run MIL 9 applications for a period of 7 days after generating the lock code. After the 7 day period, the MIL 9 runtime dongle can no longer be used to run MIL applications or as a MIL 9 license fingerprint.
